Speed Skaters of all levels must wear a helmet that meets primarily the American ASTM F-1849 standard or another homologation recognized by the ISU, such as the European EN1078.
In addition, helmets that follow the head as rounded shape as possible are requested, with no ventilation openings which the blade can come through.
Skaters must ensure that the helmet strap is properly tightened so that the helmet remains firmly in place throughout the competition.
For the time being, the ISU has not required that athletes’ helmets be inspected during competitions, however, it reserves the right to more strictly check, enforce and further specify the relevant rules in the future.
